Bioneuroemoción

Experience changes when the person becomes aware of the unconscious programmes that organise their perception, their emotions and their relationships.

Bioneuroemoción is a contemporary method of emotional support and self-knowledge associated principally with Enric Corbera and the Enric Corbera Institute, developed as a Spanish-language evolution and reformulation of biodecoding towards a broader framework centred on perception, beliefs, the unconscious, relationships, family history, the interpretation of conflicts and a change of observer. Unlike classical biodecoding, which tends to be organised around organ–conflict correspondences and a biological reading of the symptom, Bioneuroemoción progressively shifts the emphasis towards self-awareness, emotional management, the identification of unconscious patterns, the revision of beliefs, the influence of family history and the transformation of the way the person interprets their reality. Its discourse integrates references to psychology, philosophy, contemporary spirituality, the transgenerational, A Course in Miracles, biopsychosocial language and personal development approaches, presenting itself as a method for widening awareness, understanding conflicts and modifying one's subjective relationship with symptoms, relationships and life experiences. Its place is a borderline one because, although it may work with real psychological dimensions such as narrative, emotion, identity, beliefs and family bonds, it maintains controversial claims about the relationship between emotions, body, symptoms and health, and it may induce undemonstrated causal attributions, excessive therapeutic expectations or blame if a rigorous distinction is not drawn between subjective meaning, emotional support and medical causality.

Theory of change

The person changes when they become aware of the unconscious patterns that organise their perception and transform the way they interpret their conflicts.

Core ideas

  1. Experience is organised from the observer

Bioneuroemoción starts from the idea that the person does not live events neutrally but from an observer shaped by beliefs, memories, judgements, emotions, family learning and unconscious programmes. The conflict thus becomes a route to discovering from what inner place reality is interpreted and which personal filters organise experience. Reference: Corbera, 2018; Corbera, 2015.

  2. Change occurs through a change of perception

The model holds that transforming experience entails modifying the perception from which the conflict is observed. The external situation may remain the same, but what changes is the way the person interprets it, the emotion that is activated and the response they can choose. The change of perception makes it possible to widen awareness, reduce automatisms and open up new possibilities for action. Reference: Corbera, 2018; Corbera, 2015.

  3. Conflict reveals unconscious information

Bioneuroemoción understands conflict as a visible manifestation of unconscious programmes that condition perception, emotion and behaviour. When a situation generates an intense or repetitive reaction, the model interprets it as an opportunity to discover beliefs, memories, injunctions or loyalties that operate outside ordinary awareness. Reference: Corbera & Batlló, 2014; Corbera, 2015.

  4. Unconscious programmes organise repeated patterns

Unconscious programmes are learned or inherited patterns that structure the way the person interprets the world, relates to others, decides and responds emotionally. The model holds that many life repetitions — in relationships, family, work, health or decisions — express these programmes, and that making them conscious allows the person to stop living them as an automatic destiny. Reference: Corbera & Batlló, 2014; Corbera, 2015.

  5. Emotional responsibility restores the capacity to respond

Emotional responsibility is understood as the capacity to recognise how one's own perception participates in the experience of the conflict. The person ceases to be located solely in the automatic reaction and begins to observe what they interpret, what they feel, what they expect and what response they can choose. This responsibility is framed as inner authorship and as the possibility of transforming the way the situation is lived. Reference: Corbera, 2015; Corbera, 2018.

  6. Relationships act as mirrors of perception

The model interprets significant relationships as settings in which projections, judgements, expectations, needs and unconscious programmes are expressed. A partner, family, children, work or figures of authority display aspects of the observer that may not be directly acknowledged. The bond thus becomes material for widening awareness of one's own way of perceiving and responding. Reference: Corbera & Batlló, 2014; Corbera, 2018.

  7. Judgement indicates a deep belief

Judgement is regarded as a significant signal for accessing the observer's inner structure. When the person judges someone, themselves or a situation intensely, the model explores what belief, need, wound, expectation or projection is revealed in that judgement. Observing the judgement makes it possible to uncover unconscious content and to open up a less reactive perception. Reference: Corbera, 2015; Corbera, 2018.

  8. Projection reveals unacknowledged content

Projection describes the process by which the person places outside themselves emotional aspects, judgements, conflicts or needs that they do not yet recognise as their own. In Bioneuroemoción, working with projection makes it possible to recover information about the inner world and to transform the relationship with the other from a position of greater awareness, responsibility and perceptual freedom. Reference: Corbera, 2015; Corbera, 2018.

  9. The transgenerational widens understanding of the conflict

Bioneuroemoción situates individual conflict within a broader family fabric, exploring repetitions, secrets, griefs, injunctions, exclusions, dates, names, roles and loyalties. The family tree is used as a symbolic map for understanding how certain ways of perceiving, feeling and acting may be related to earlier histories in the family system. Reference: Corbera & Batlló, 2014; Corbera, 2015.

  10. The projet sens influences identity

The projet sens explores the period before conception, the pregnancy, the birth and the first years of life as a symbolic context in which expectations, injunctions, parental wishes, griefs or family functions may be shaped. The model holds that this origin may influence identity, the place the person occupies in the family system and the patterns they tend to repeat. Reference: Corbera & Batlló, 2014; Corbera, 2015.
